Subrogation of guarantor in the rights of the creditor

Statutory text
The guarantor who effected payment to the creditor stands subrogated in all rights which the creditor had against the debtor. § Sole paragraph: If the surety, however, had compromised with the creditor, he has right to demand from the debtor only what he actually paid, except when the creditor had made gift to the surety of the amount corresponding to the reduction made on the amount of the debt.
