Frequently asked

Bare Acts, gazettes, and how this library works

What is an Indian Bare Act?+

The unannotated text of a statute as enacted and amended — sections, schedules, and the long title — without commentary. Vidhi Codex presents that text section-by-section, with a linked contents list.

Where are the new criminal laws (BNS, BNSS, BSA 2023)?+

Open Most Visited or search BNS / BNSS / BSA. They replaced the IPC, CrPC and Evidence Act from 1 July 2024. Cheatsheets cover the criminal-trial spine under BNSS.

How do I download a Gazette PDF?+

Use a Download PDF link when available. Files are validated for format and integrity; this does not certify legal accuracy or freshness. Missing downloads show data processing.

Do you cover State Acts?+

Yes. The State Acts tab groups legislation by all 28 States and the Union Territories. Data processing is scheduled twice a week; complete coverage and current amendments are not guaranteed.

Can I reuse library data?+

Access is free with attribution. Underlying documents, commentary and artwork have their own rights. Read Data use & attribution before reproducing or redistributing material; attribution does not replace required permissions.

Is this free? Do I need an account?+

The library is free and does not require sign-up. Search, filters, and reading run in your browser against the committed JSON corpus.
