Statutory text
(1) Every person who is elected as a Councillor shall, before taking his seat, make and subscribe an oath or affirmation of his allegiance to the Constitution of India in such Form, and in such manner, as may be prescribed. (2) The Chief Councillor shall assume office after taking an oath of secrecy in such Form, and in such manner, as may be prescribed. (3) If any person, having been elected a Councillor, fails to make and subscribe, within three months of the date on which his term of office commences, the oath or affirmation under sub-section (1), such person shall cease to hold his office, and his seat shall be deemed to have become vacant.
