Taking of oath-
- (1) Every person who is elected or appointed to be a Commissioner of a Board, shall before taking his seat make at a meeting of the Board an oath or affirmation of his allegiance to the Union of India before a person appointed by the State Government for the purpose in the following form, namely: Note: In Section 25 in sub-section (1) the words “before a person appointed by the State Government for the purpose” were inserted by the Meghalaya Municipal (Amendment) Act 2000 (Act No. 6 of 2000), published in the Gazette of Meghalaya dated 4th April, 2000. 1, A. B., having been elected a Commissioner of this Board do appointed swear in the name of God (or solemnly affirm) that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as by law established, and will faithfully discharge the duty upon which I am about to enter.
- (2) Any person having been elected or appointed a Commissioner fails to make, within three months from the dale of the first meeting of the Board the oath or affirmation laid down in sub-section (1), shall cease to hold his office and his seat shall be deemed to have become Vacant.
