Definitions

In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,- (a) "Governing Body of the Society" means the Governors, Council, Directors, Committee, Trustees or other body, by whatever name called, to whom the management of the affairs of the society is entrusted by the Regulations of the Society, (b) "Member of the Society" means a person who has been admitted to the society as a member according to the Regulations of the society and who is a member of the society for the time being and who, according to the Regulations of the society - (one) has paid the subscription, (two) has signed the roll or list of members, and (three) has not resigned. (c) "Registrar" means the Registrar of Societies appointed under sub-section (1) of Section 4, and includes the Additional Registrar of Societies, Joint Registrar of Societies, Deputy Registrar of Societies and Assistant Registrar of Societies appointed under sub-section (2) of the said section, when they are exercising all or any of the powers of the Registrar, or are discharging all or any of the duties of the Registrar, (d) "Regulations of the Society" means the registered regulations of the society which are in force for the time being, (e) "Society" means a society registered or deemed to be registered under this Act, (f) "State-aided society" means a society which receives aid, grant or loan from the Central Government or the State Government or any statutory body, or which has received land or building or both and other facilities at concessional rates.
