Powers and duties of the University
The Uttarakhand Residential University Act, 2016The powers and duties of the University shall be as follows, namely: (1) To provide for instruction in such branches of learning as the University may deem fit, keeping a special focus on modern subjects, so that it may become a center of excellence in every such field, and to provide for research for the advancement and propagation of knowledge; (2) To institute degrees, diplomas and other academic distinctions; (3) To establish faculties, schools and such other academic bodies in accordance with the provisions of the Statutes; (4) To hold examinations and to eventually bestow degrees, diplomas and other academic distinctions upon persons who have successfully completed the prescribed course of study, examination and/or research at the University or its Institute/Campus; (5) To bestow honorary degrees or other academic distinctions in the manner and subject to the conditions prescribed in the Statutes; (6) To cooperate and collaborate with other universities, national laboratories and authorities in such manner and for such purposes as the University may determine; (7) To create such posts of teachers as may be required by the University and to appoint persons to such posts; (8) To regulate and enforce discipline among the students and employees of the University and its institutions by laying down a code of conduct and other necessary measures; (9) To institute and bestow fellowships, study fellowships, scholarships (including travel research scholarships) and prizes in accordance with the Statutes and Ordinances; (10) To establish and maintain hostels for the students of the University or its institutions/campuses and to recognize places of residence; (11) To demand and receive such fees and other charges as may be fixed by the Statutes; (12) To supervise and control the residences of the University or its institutions/campuses and to regulate the discipline of the students and to make arrangements for the promotion of their health; (13) To create administrative, clerical and other necessary posts and to make appointments to them; (14) To acquire resources through consultancy based on research and design projects and to make provisions for increasing its assets and resources and for productive use; and (15) To perform all such other acts as may be required to further the objects of the University, whether they are incidental to the aforementioned powers or not.
