Definitions

Unless the context otherwise requires, in this Act: (a) "Academic Council" means the Academic Council of the University; (b) "Chancellor" means the Chancellor of the University; (c) "Constituent College" or "Campus" means an additional campus/institute maintained and operated by the University; (d) "Court" means the Court of the University; (e) "Dean" means the Dean appointed in accordance with the provisions of this Act; (f) "Director" means the head of an institute established by the University for the planning and conduct of teaching and research in any subject; (g) "Employee" means an employee appointed by the University and includes teachers and other staff of the University or any constituent college; (h) "Executive Council" means the Executive Council of the University; (i) "Faculty" means the faculty of the University; (j) "Finance Committee" means the Finance Committee of the University; (k) "Government" means the Government of Uttarakhand; (l) "Institution" means an institution established by the University for the planning and conduct of teaching and research in any subject; (m) "Management Board" means the body for the management of the affairs of any institute/campus and other body recognized by the University as such; (n) "Prescribed" means prescribed by Statutes or Ordinances; (o) "Principal" means the head of a constituent college in relation to a constituent college, and includes, where there is no Principal, the Vice-Principal or any other person for the time being appointed to act as Principal; (p) "Registrar" means the Registrar of the University; (q) "School" means a school of the University; (r) "State" means the State of Uttarakhand; (s) "Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations" means respectively the Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations of the University; (t) "Teacher" means a Professor, Associate Professor, Reader, Assistant Professor, Lecturer or any such other person who is appointed for the conduct of instruction, teaching or research in the University or a constituent college, and includes the Principal of a constituent college; (u) "University Grants Commission" means the University Grants Commission established under the University Grants Commission Act, 1956; (v) "University" means the Almora Residential University established under this Act; (w) "Vice-Chancellor" means the Vice-Chancellor of the University.
