Chapter IX Penalty

Statutory text

(1) A market committee and the Chairman thereof may impose the penalties of censure or of fine on any licensed market functionary or seller for contravention of any byelaw : Provided that the market committee shall not be competent to impose fine exceeding 2[two thousand] rupees and the Chairman shall not be competent to impose fine exceeding 2[five hundred]U rupees. Provided further that no penalty shall be imposed under this section without giving the person concerned a reasonable opportunity of being heard.
(2) Any person aggrieved by an order made under sub-section (1) may prefer an appeal against such order to the Managing Director within fifteen days from the date of receipt of order by such person and the decision of the Managing Director thereon shall be final.
