Creation of Police Ranges and Police zones

The State Government, in consultation with the Director General of Police, may, if required in public interest, by notification divide the entire geographical area of the State into one or more Police Ranges, and two or more Police Ranges into Police Zones. Each Range shall be headed by an officer of the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police who shall supervise the Police administration of the Range and report directly to the Inspector General of Police in charge of Law and Order, or on creation of Police Zones, to the Inspector General of Police in charge of the Zone comprising his Range, who shall supervise the Police administration over all Ranges under him and report to the Director General of Police through the Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, if appointed.
