Superintendence of State Police to vest in the State Government

(1) It shall be the responsibility of the State Government to ensure an efficient, effective, responsive and accountable Police service for the entire State. For this purpose, the superintendence of the Police service throughout the State shall vest in and be exercised by the State Government in accordance with the provisions of this Act. (2) The State Government shall exercise its superintendence over the Police service in such manner and to such extent so as to promote the professional efficiency of the Police and to ensure that the Police performance is at all times in accordance with the law. For this purpose, the State Government shall lay down policies and guidelines, setting standards for quality policing, facilitate their implementation and ensuring that the Police force performs its duties in a professional manner with functional autonomy.
