The Civil Police
The Sikkim Police Act, 2008(1) The Civil Police shall comprise of the Civil Police, Armed Police, and the strength of the various departments and branches, Investigation Department, State Intelligence Wing and branches of the Civil Police shall be as prescribed by the Government from time to time. (2) Recruitment to the Civil Police shall be as per the recruitment rules notified by the State Government. The Director General of Police, subject to the provision of this Act, shall cause an annual assessment of the personnel in the Civil Police required to be recruited by direct recruitment. (3) The Government shall endeavor to introduce a shift system in the Civil Police for proper working hours consistent with efficiency in performance. (4) The Director General of Police, with the approval of the State Government, shall endeavor to outsource as many non-core police functions as practicable, to enable the police to concentrate on core police functions. (5) The Station House Officer shall assign work and control and supervise the personnel of the Police station and Police Posts in his charge. (6) That the quota for direct recruitment in ranks to which direct recruitment is conducted, shall be so fixed by the State Government as to ensure a balance between the different ranks and prospects for promotions for meritorious officers at each level. (7) Every Civil Police officer on initial recruitment shall undergo induction training at the police training centre; the period and syllabus of training shall be as the State Government may determine, which may be revised from time to time on the recommendations of the Director General of Police subject to the general directions of the State Police Board.
