Statutory text
- (a) The Vice-Chancellor shall be the principal academic and executive officer of the University and shall exercise supervision and control over the affairs of the University and give effect to the decisions of all the authorities of the University. (b) He may, if he is of the opinion that immediate action is called for on any matter, he shall exercise any power conferred upon any authority of the University by or under this Act and report to such authority the action taken by him. (c) He shall exercise general control over the affairs of the University and shall be responsible for the due maintenance of discipline in the University. (d) He shall grant leave to such officers of the University as may be specified by the Statutes and shall have the power to suspend them pending departmental enquiry. (e) He shall appoint paper-setters, examiners for all examinations of the University and moderate the results. (f) He shall have the power to convene meetings of any of the authorities, bodies or committees of the University and shall preside over the meetings of the authorities, bodies and committees of the University. (g) He shall inspect the affiliated colleges and institutions and may require the management of such institutions or colleges to conduct enquiries on matters, he may think fit. (h) He shall have the power to take disciplinary action against any student of the University. (i) He shall exercise such other powers as may be prescribed by the Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations. (j) He shall ensure that the provisions of this Act, the Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations are faithfully observed. (k) He shall exercise power to appoint, engage or hire the services of any person on such terms and conditions and for such period as may be required for the purpose of the University. (l) The Vice-Chancellor shall be the approving authority for the appointments made by the authorities of the University. (m) He shall encourage the teachers of the University by academic pursuits and research. (n) He shall be responsible for the presentation of the annual financial estimates and the annual accounts and balance sheet of the University to the Executive Council. (o) He shall ensure the coordination between the University and the technical institutions. (p) He shall exercise such other powers which are necessary for the smooth functioning of the University.
