Statutory text
- (1) The Rector shall be appointed by the Executive Council on the recommendation of the Kulpati from amongst the Professors of the University or such other senior academic personnel of the University as may be designated by the Statutes, on such terms and conditions as may be prescribed by the Statutes, for a period of three years and he shall be eligible for re-appointment for a further period of three years.
- (2) The Rector shall perform such of the duties of the Kulpati as the Kulpati may, with the approval of the Kuladhipati, entrust to him from time to time.
- (3) The Rector shall perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Statutes or Ordinances or as may be assigned to him by the Kulpati.
- (4) (a) The Rector shall be a member of the Executive Council and the Academic Council.
- (b) The Rector shall generally assist the Kulpati in the management of the affairs of the University and shall exercise such powers and perform such duties as may be delegated to him by the Kulpati.
- (5) The Rector shall hold office for a period of three years and shall be eligible for re-appointment for a further period of three years.
- (6) The Kulpati shall have power to remove the Rector from office before the expiry of his term of office, if in the opinion of the Kulpati, the Rector is not performing his duties to the satisfaction of the Kulpati, with the approval of the Kuladhipati, provided that the procedure prescribed for removal of any officer of the University by the Statute shall be followed, in so far as it is not inconsistent with this section.
