Powers and duties of Academic Council

Statutory text

(1) The Academic Council shall have the following powers and duties, namely:- (a) to make recommendations to the Executive Council on all academic matters; (b) to formulate, modify or revise schemes for the organisation of faculties and to assign to such faculties their respective subjects and also to report to the Executive Council as to the expediency of the abolition or subdivision of any faculty or the fusion of one or more faculties; (c) to make arrangements for the instruction and examination of persons as are not members of the University; (d) to promote research within the University; (e) to make recommendations to the Executive Council with regard to the creation and abolition of teaching posts in the University; (f) to make recommendations to the Executive Council in regard to the appointment of examiners and their remuneration; (g) to maintain proper standards of the examinations and other academic activities; (h) to exercise such other powers and perform such other duties as may be conferred or imposed upon it by the Statutes and Ordinances. (2) The Academic Council shall meet at such time and place and shall observe such rules of procedure in regard to the transaction of business at its meetings as may be provided by the Statutes.
