Definition

In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires- (one) "Academic Council" means the Academic Council of the University; (two) "Affiliated College or Polytechnic" means an institution admitted to the privileges of the University in accordance with the provisions of this Act and the Statute; (three) "All India Council for Technical Education" means the All India Council for Technical Education established under the All India Council for Technical Education Act, 1987 (No. 52 of 1987); (four) "Autonomous College or Polytechnic" means an institution declared as autonomous institution by the University in accordance with the provisions of this Act; (five) "Board of Studies" means the Board of Studies of the University; (six) "Centre" means a part of the University nurturing specific activities pertaining to emerging technologies; (seven) "College or Polytechnic" means an institution maintained by, or admitted to. the privileges of the University by or under the provisions of this Act; (eight) "Department" means a Department of studies and includes a School of Studies; (nine) "Employees" means any person appointed by the University and includes teachers and other staff of the University; (ten) "Executive Council" means the Executive Council of the University; (eleven) "Faculty" means Faculty of the University; (twelve) "Head of College or Polytechnic Department" means the head of the department of a College or Polytechnic; (thirteen) "Head of the University Department" means the head of the teaching department by the University for imparting instructions to the students of the University and includes the Director or Principal of any college or institute maintained, by the University for the promotion of research or for imparting instructions to the students; (fourteen) "Kuladhipati" means the Kuladhipati of the University; (fifteen) "Kulpati" means the Kulpati of the University; (sixteen) "Management" means the management of the college; (seventeen) "Other Backward Classes" means the Other Backward Classes as specified by the State Government from time to time by Notification; (eighteen) "Persons connected with the University" means an employee of the University or a College or a Polytechnic or a member of any authority or body of the University or of the Management of the College or Polytechnic; (nineteen) "Principal" means the head of the college or Polytechnic and includes, when there is no Principal, the person for the time being duly appointed to act as Principal; (twenty) "Registered graduate or diploma holder" means a graduate or diploma holder registered or deemed to be registered under the provisions of this Act; (twentyone) "Scheduled Castes" means the Scheduled Castes as specified in relation to this State under Article 341 of the Constitution of India; (twentytwo) "Scheduled Tribes" means the Scheduled Tribes as specified in relation to this State under Article 342 of the Constitution of India; (twentythree) "School of Studies" means an institution maintained by the University as a place of higher learning and research; (twentyfour) "Statute, Ordinance and Regulation" means the Statute, Ordinance and Regulation of the University; (twentyfive) "Teachers of the University" means Professor, Reader, Lecturer and such other persons as may be appointed for imparting instructions or conducting research, with the approval of the Academic Council in the University or any College Polytechnic or any institution maintained or recognised by the University; (twentysix) "Technical Education" means Engineering, Technology, Management, Pharmacy, Architecture and other subjects as declared by All India Council of Technical Education from time to time;
