Obligation to render services required by goods owner

(1) Subject to the provisions of sub-section (1) of section 38 where any of the services specified in clause (a) or (e) of sub-section (1) of section 35 has been undertaken by the Board, it shall be the duty of the Board to render the said services in respect of the goods if so required by the owner and if further required, to take charge of the same on granting in the prescribed form and manner a receipt therefor. (2) On the issue of a receipt under sub-section (1) the person in whose favour such receipt is issued and the master or owner of the vessel from which the goods might have been transhipped shall cease to be responsible for the subsequent loss or damage, if any, to such goods.
