Definitions

Definitions: In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,—

1. (a) "Academic Council" means the Academic Council of the University;
2. (b) "Act" means the Asian International University, Manipur Act, 2021;
3. (c) "AICTE" means the All India Council for Technical Education established under section 3 of the All India Council for Technical Education Act, 1987;
4. (d) "Authorities" means the authorities of the University as specified in section 21 of this Act;
5. (e) "Board of Management" means the Board of Management of the University as specified in section 22 of this Act;
6. (f) "Chancellor" means the Chancellor of the University appointed under section 14 of this Act;
7. (g) "Dean" means the Dean of the University;
8. (h) "Distance Education System" means the system of imparting education through any means of information technology, communication and mechanical devices, correspondence courses, contact programmes, seminars, contact classes or any other methodology and study by any combination of these;
   • (i) "Director/Principal" means the Head of the University Institution or the person appointed for the purpose to act as such;
9. (j) "Employee" means employee appointed by the University; and includes teachers and other staff of the University or of a constituent college;
10. (k) "Fee" means monetary collection made by the University or its colleges, institutions or study centres, as the case may be, from the students by whatever name it may be called, which is not prohibited by any law for the time being in force;
11. (l) "Government" means the State Government of Manipur;
12. (m) "Higher Education" means study of a curriculum or course for the pursuit of knowledge beyond 10+2 level;
13. (n) "Hostel" means a place of residence for the students of the University, or its institutions and includes a place of residence run by the University;
14. (o) "Institution" means an academic institution maintained by or admitted to the privileges of the University;
15. (p) "Notification" means a notification published in the Official Gazette;
16. (q) "Off-campus centre" means a centre of the University established by it outside the main campus (within the State of Manipur) operated and maintained as its constituent unit, having the University’s complement of facilities, faculty and staff;
17. (r) "Official Gazette" means the Manipur Gazette; "Prescribed" means prescribed by the Statutes;
18. (t) "Pro-Chancellor" means the Pro-Chancellor of the University appointed under section 15 of this Act;
19. (u) "Statutes", "Ordinances" and "Regulations" mean respectively, the Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations of the University made under this Act;
    • (v) "Student" means a student of the University and includes any person enrolled in the course of study of the University;
20. (w) "Study Centre" means a centre established and maintained or recognized by the University for the purpose of advising, counselling or for rendering any other assistance required by the students in the context of distance education;
    • (x) "Teacher" means a Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor and such other person as may be appointed for imparting instruction or conducting research in the University or in colleges or institutions maintained by the University;
21. (y) "UGC" means the University Grants Commission, established under section 4 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956;
22. (z) "University" means the Asian International University, Manipur established under this Act;
23. (za) "Vice-Chancellor" means the Vice-Chancellor of the University appointed under section 16 of this Act; and
24. (zb) "Visitor" means the Visitor of the University as referred to in section 13 of this Act.
