Powers and duties of the Academic Council

Subject to the provisions of this Act, the Statutes and the Ordinances, the Academic Council shall have the following powers and duties, namely:-

1. (a) to control and regulate the standards of instruction, education and examinations in the University;
2. (b) to recommend to the Executive Council the establishment of new Schools, Departments or Centres of Study;
3. (c) to make recommendations to the Executive Council regarding the creation and abolition of academic posts;
4. (d) to make regulations and ordinances regarding academic matters;
5. (e) to recommend to the Executive Council the institution of degrees, diplomas, certificates and other academic distinctions;
6. (f) to recommend to the Executive Council the curriculum, syllabi and courses of study;
7. (g) to recommend to the Executive Council the establishment of fellowships, scholarships, studentships, medals and prizes; and
8. (h) to exercise such other powers and perform such other duties as may be conferred or imposed on it by the Statutes or the Ordinances.
