Statutory text

(1) There shall be a Directorate of Prisons and Correctional Services in the State, which shall be responsible for implementing the correctional services policies laid down by the Government and shall plan, organize, direct, coordinate and control all prisons and correctional institutions and matters connected therewith and incidental thereto. The Directorate shall consist of such number of officials, as may be prescribed by the Government, from time to time.
(2) The institutional set-up may be decided in accordance with the need and requirement of prisoners, the inmate population, workload of correctional services officials, as may be prescribed under the rules.
