Statutory text

Award of Degrees.—

  1. (1) A private university shall have the power to confer degrees, diplomas, and certificates as specified by the University Grants Commission.
  2. (2) The degrees conferred by a private university shall be recognized under Section 22 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
  3. (3) The award of degrees shall be the exclusive preserve of the university and no institution affiliated or recognized by the university, if any, shall award degrees in its name.
