Inquiry to be made by Collector

(1) The Collector shall, thereupon, fix a date (of which the person to whom the land belongs shall receive not less than a month's notice) for holding an inquiry and shall publish a notice of the application and the date fixed for the inquiry in the village or villages concerned. (2) At such inquiry the Collector shall determine- (a) whether the proposed improvement is of sufficient importance to justify action under this Act; (b) whether the most suitable situation or alignment for the proposed work necessitates the acquisition of the land; (c) whether the execution of the work is likely to cause damage to land belonging to other permanent holders, and whether any such land should be acquired; (d) whether the statements in the application mentioned in section 82 are true; and (e) generally, whether the application should be granted.
