Canal officers to have certain powers of civil court

The Canal Officer conducting an enquiry in the discharge of his duties under this Act, or the rules made thereunder shall have the powers of a civil court under the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 (V of 1908), for the purposes of receiving evidence, administering oathes, enforcing the attendance of witness and compelling the discovery and production of documents and all such proceedings under this Act and the rules made thereunder shall be deemed to be judicial proceedings within the meaning of section 228 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 (No. 45 of 1860).
