Penalties

Whoever, in contravention of this Chapter or of any rule made or licence granted thereunder, possesses sandalwood, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to five years and with fine which may extend to Rs. 20,000: Provided that-, (a) for a first offence, the term of such imprisonment shall not be less than two years and such fine shall not be less than Rs. 7,500; (b) for a second or subsequent offence, the term of such imprison-ment shall not be less than three years and such fine shall not be less than Rs. 15,000.
