The Chhattisgarh Protection of Media Persons Act, 2023
The Chhattisgarh Protection of Media Persons Act, 2023
This Act safeguards journalists and media personnel in Chhattisgarh from harassment, intimidation, violence, and false prosecution arising from their professional duties. It applies to eligible editors, reporters, freelancers, photojournalists, stringers, and supporting technical staff working across print, broadcast, and digital media outlets in the state. To receive statutory protections, eligible media persons must register on a designated state register. The legislation creates the Chhattisgarh Media Freedom, Protection and Promotion Committee, a specialized body empowered to investigate complaints, direct police inquiries, order emergency security measures, and impose financial penalties on individuals or companies that obstruct or target media workers.
