Powers and functions of Academic Council

Subject to the provisions of this Adhiniyam and the Statutes, Academic Council shall:-

1. (i) generally regulate and have the control of, and be responsible for, the maintenance of standards of teaching, research and examination of the Vishwavidyalaya and for laying down the requirement for obtaining degrees;
2. (ii) advise the Executive Council and other authorities of the Vishwavidyalaya on all academic matters to make Statutes, Ordinances and regulations regarding-

1. (a) the admission of student to the Vishwavidyalaya and the number of students to be admitted;
2. (b) the course of study leading to degrees, diplomas and other academic distinctions; and
3. (c) the conduct of examinations and maintenance and promotion of Standards of education.
   • (iii) advise the Executive Council on all academic matters including the control and management of libraries;
   • (iv) make recommendations to the Executive Council for the institution of teaching, research and extension education posts and in regard to the duties thereof;
   • (v) formulate, modify or revise schemes for the constitution or reconstitution of departments of teaching, research and extension education;
   • (vi) make recommendations to the Executive Council regarding teaching, research and extension education;
   • (vii) make recommendations to the Executive Council regarding the qualifications to be prescribed for teaching, research and extension education posts in the Vishwavidyalaya;
   • (viii) make recommendations to the Executive Council for the conferment of honorary degrees or other distinctions;
   • (ix) exercise such other powers and perform such other functions as may be prescribed; and
   • (x) propose draft to the Executive Council for making, amending or repealing Ordinances.
