(1) The Government may by notification in the Official Gazette, require the owners or occupiers of the buildings or premises of such class or description as specified in the notification to make provisions for fire prevention and life safety measures in their buildings or premises, in accordance with the provisions of the National Building Code of India, 2016 (as amended from time to time) or relevant standards as prescribed by the Bureau of Indian Standards, or fire safety norms as prescribed by the Government. (2) The owner or occupier, as the case may be, of the building or premises referred to in sub-section (1), shall provide and maintain such fire prevention and life safety measures in their buildings or premises as specified in the notification and shall apply for a Fire Safety Certificate to the Director or such officer as authorized by him, in such form and manner as prescribed, and the officer concerned shall after being satisfied issue a Fire Safety Certificate.
