Provided that the Government may, for reasons to be recorded in writing, extend the said period for making and subscribing the oath or affirmation.

Resignation of councillor Resignation of councillor. -

1. (1) A councillor may resign his office by giving notice in writing under his hand to the Mayor and his office shall become vacant on the expiry of fifteen days from the date of receipt of such notice by the Mayor unless within the said period he withdraws such notice by notice in writing under his hand to the Mayor.
2. (2) A copy of the notice of resignation shall also be forwarded to the Commissioner by the councillor.
