Duties of Chairperson
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Municipal Regulation 1994It shall be the duty of the Chairperson of a Municipality,-- (a) unless prevented by reasonable cause, to convene and preside at all meetings of the Municipality and to control, in accordance with the bye-laws made in this behalf, the transaction of business thereat; (b) subject to the provisions of this Regulation, Chairperson shall have general powers of inspection and may give direction to the Secretary with regard to the implementation of any resolution of the Municipality or a sub-committee in the discharge of any obligatory and discretionary functions of the Municipality and the secretary shall comply with such directions. The Chairperson may call any record of the Municipality from the Secretary and the same shall be made available to him and shall be returned by him within fifteen days from the date they are made available; (c) the chairperson shall not be eligible to be elected as chairperson of any sub-committee; (d) if the chairperson is, at the time of his election as chairperson, the chairperson, or an elected member of a sub-committee he shall cease to hold office as such chairperson or member of such committee; (e) if any vacancy occurs in the office the chairperson of any sub-committee, the Chairperson shall convene a meeting of such sub-committee for the election of another chairperson; (f) to perform such other duties as are required for or may be imposed upon him by or under this Regulation.
