Definition

In this Act and in the Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations made hereunder, unless the context otherwise requires:

1. (i) "Academic Council" means the Academic Council of the University;
2. (ii) "Act" means Science Technology and allied Skill University, Tripura Act, 2026;
3. (iii) "AICTE" means All India Council for Technical Education established under Section 3 of the All India Council for Technical Education Act, 1987;
4. (iv) "BCI" means Bar Council of India;
5. (v) "Board" means the Board of Governors, Board of Faculties, Board of Studies and the Planning Board or any other Board of the University;
6. (vi) "Centre" means a centre established or maintained by the University;
7. (vii) "Chancellor", "Vice-Chancellor" and "Pro-Vice-Chancellor" means respectively the Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor and the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University;
8. (viii) "College Development Council" means College Development Council of the University;
9. (ix) "Constituent College" means a College or an institute maintained by the University;
10. (x) "CSIR" means the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi;
11. (xi) "Department" means a Department of Studies which would be under a Centre of Studies and Research;
12. (xii) "Director or Principal" means the head of an Institution, college, school, Polytechnic and Industrial Training Institute, Teachers Training Institute or the person appointed for the purpose to act as such in his absence;
13. (xiii) "Distance Education System" means and includes the system of imparting education through any means of communication, such as broadcasting, telecasting correspondence courses, seminars, contact programmes or the combination of any two or more;
14. (xiv) "DSIR" means the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi;
15. (xv) "DST" means the Department of Science and Technology of the Central Government;
16. (xvi) "Employee" means any person appointed by the University and includes a teacher (academic) or any other member of the non-academic staff of the University;
17. (xvii) "Employee" will include teaching and non-teaching staff of the University;
18. (xiii) "Executive Council" means the Executive Council of the University;
19. (xix) "Governing Body" means a committee constituted by the sponsoring body;
20. (xx) "Hostel" means Scholars or Student's Hostel of the University;

1. (xxi) "ICAR" means the Indian Council of Agricultural Research;
2. (xxii) "Institute or School" means an Institute or School established by the University in accordance with this Act and the Statutes; (xxiii) "NAAC" means the National Assessment and Accreditation Council;
3. (xxiv) "NCC" means National Cadet Corps;
4. (xxv) "NCTE" means the National Council for Teacher Education under the National Council for Teacher Education Act, 1993;
5. (xxvi) "NSS" means National Service Scheme; (xxvii) "Online education" means a form of distance education where primary delivery mechanism is via the internet, allows anyone with computer access to learn and earn credits; (xxiii) "PCI" means Pharmacy Council of India constituted under Section 3 of the Pharmacy Act, 1948;
6. (xxix) "Prescribed" means prescribed by statutes;
7. (xxx) "Records and Publications" means the Records and Publications of the University;
8. (xxxi) "Regulatory Body" means the statutory body established by the Central Government from time to time such as the University Grants Commission and includes the All India Council for Technical Education, the Bar Council of India, the Distance Education Council, the Indian Nursing Council, the National Council for Teacher Education, Central Council for Indian Medicine and the Pharmacy Council of India; (xxxii) "Schedule" means schedule appended to this Act; (xxxiii) "School and Faculty" means a School and Faculty of the University respectively; (xxxiv) "State Government" means the State Government of Tripura;
9. (xxxv) "Statutes", "Ordinances" and "Regulations" means respectively the Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations of the University framed by the University for the time being in force; (xxxvi) "Student" means a student enrolled with the University; (xxxvii) "Teacher of the University" means Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and such other persons as may be appointed for imparting education or conducting research in the University and are designated as Teachers by the Ordinances; (xxxviii) "Treasurer", "Registrar", "Finance Officer", "Controller of Examinations", "Librarian" and "Proctor" means respectively the Treasurer, the Registrar, the Finance Officer, the Controller of Examinations, the Librarian and the Proctor of the University; (xxxix) "Trust" means Bharat Educational and Cultural Development Trust, Hapur registered under the Indian Trusts Act 1882;
10. (xxxx) "UGC" means University Grants Commission established under Section 4 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
