Definitions

In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,-

1. (a) 'Block' means the Block notified under section 15.
2. (b) 'District Board' means a District Board, Local Board, Union Board or Union Committee constituted for the local administration of the district or any part thereof under the Bihar and Orissa Local Self-Government Act, 1885, the Madras Local Boards Act, 1920, the Madras Local Boards Act, 1920, as applied to the district of Koraput or the Sambalpur Local Self-Government Act, 1939;
3. (c) 'Government' means the State Government of Orissa;
4. (d) 'Grama' means a Grama constituted under the Orissa Grama Panchayats Act, 1948;
5. (d) 'Grama Panchayat' means the Grama Panchayat constituted under the Orissa Grama Panchayats Act, 1948; (d-1) 'Official' shall have reference to Government servants and the word 'non-official' shall be construed accordingly; (d-2) 'Ordinary resident in any area' with its grammatical variations and cognate expressions shall have reference to a person whose name finds place in the electoral roll for the time being in force prepared under the Representation of the People Act, 1950 in so far as the roll relates to such area;
6. (e) 'Panchayat Samiti' hereinafter referred to as the 'Samiti' means the Panchayat Samiti constituted under section 16;
7. (f) 'Population' means population as ascertained in the last preceding census of which the relevant figures have been published;
8. (g) 'Prescribed' means prescribed by rules made under this Act.
