Definition

In this Act, except where it is expressly provided or the context otherwise requires:-

1. (1) 'Collective Works' means a community work done by the village jointly for the common good.
2. (2) 'District' means the Lai Autonomous District as provided in Part- III of the table appended to Paragraph 20 of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India.
3. (3) 'District Council means the Lai Autonomous District Council.
4. (4) 'Executive Body' means the executive body of the Village Council.
5. (5) 'Executive Committee' means the Executive Committee of the Lai Autonomous District Council.
6. (6) 'Governor' means the Governor of Mizoram.
7. (7) 'Judicial function' means the judicial function of the Village Council.
8. (8) 'Khaw Upa' means a Village headman appointed to look after a Sub-Village under the authority of Executive Committee in consultation with the Village Concerned.
9. (9) 'Legislative function' means the legislative functions of the Village Council
10. (10) 'Member' means a member of a Village Council
11. (11) 'President' means a President of a Village Council elected by majority of members of Village Council or appointed as such by the Executive Committee
12. (12) 'Scheduled Tribe or Tribes' means such tribe or tribes as are specified by the President of India under Article 342
13. (1) of the Constitution of India as modified by law made by Parliament from time to time insofar as the specification pertains to the State of Mizoram.
14. (13) 'Secretary' means the Secretary of a Village Council.
15. (14) 'Tlangau' means the village announcer.
16. (15) 'Vice President' means a Vice President of a Village Council elected by majority of members of Village Council or appointed as such by the Executive Committee.
17. (16) 'Village Council' means a Village Council constituted under the provisions of this Act
18. (17) 'Voter' means a person who is entitled to vote at any election to the Lai Autonomous District Council.
