Definitions

Definitions:- In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires-

1. (a) "marriage" includes all the marriages contracted by persons belonging to any caste, tribe or religion, and the marriages contracted as per any custom, practices or traditions, and also includes re-marriages;
2. (b) "memorandum" means a memorandum of marriage mentioned in section 5 of this Act;
3. (c) "prescribed" means prescribed by any rules as may be made under this Act;
4. (d) "register" means a register of marriages maintained under this Act;
5. (e) "Registrar" means a Registrar of marriages appointed under this Act;
6. (f) "Registrar General of Marriages" means the Secretary to the Government of Mizoram in the Law and Judicial Department, ex-officio;
7. (g) 'State, Government" means the Government of Mizoram;
8. (h) "to contract a marriage" means to solemnize or enter into a marriage in any form or manner, in accordance with any custom, practices Or traditions in force.
