Objects of the University–
The Jharkhand State Open University Act, 20215. Objects of the University– (1) The objects of the University shall be-. (1) to provide educational opportunities to those who are unable to go in for formal education and wish to upgrade their education or acquire knowledge and studies in various fields through the distance mode of education, such as, the print-medium (correspondence courses), contract programmes, study centres and mass media; (2) to provide access to higher education to large segments of the population and in particular the disadvantaged groups, such as, those living in remote and rural and tribal areas including working people, housewives and other adults who wish to upgrade or acquire knowledge through studies in various fields; (3) to provide flexibility with regard to eligibility for enrolment, age of entry, choice of courses, methods of learning, conduct of examinations and operation of the programmes, complementary to the programmes of the existing Universities in the State in the field of higher learning; (4) to offer degree, diploma and certificate programme/courses and to make provision for research for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge. (5) to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge by different means, including the use of communication technology. (6) to promote acquisition of knowledge in a rapidly developing and changing society and to offer opportunities for upgrading knowledge, training and skills in the context of innovations, research and discovery in all fields of human endeavours, (7) to establish the following Schools of Studies at the Headquarters of the University, namely – (i) School of Humanities, (ii) School of Social Sciences, (iii) School of Sciences and Technology, (iv) School of Education, (v) School of Continuing and Extension Education, (vi) School of Business and Management Studies, (vii) School of Health Care Studies; (viii) School of Computer and Information Sciences, (ix) School of Agriculture Science. (x) School of Tribal Studies (xi) School of Journalism and Mass Communication, (xii) School of Tourism and Hospitality Service Management झारखडगजट(असाधारण) मंगलवार, 23 नव.बर, 2021 (xiii) School of Vocational Education and Training (xiv) School of Social Work, (xv) School of Gender and Development Studies (xvi) Any other Schools with the approval of the Government, (8) to contribute to the improvement of the educational system in Jharkhand by providing a non-formal channel complementary to the formal system by making wide use of texts and other software developed by the University. (i) to provide education and training in the various courses, (ii) to provide the counselling and guidance to its students (2) The University shall strive to fulfill the above objects by a diversity of means of distance education and shall function in cooperation with the existing Universities and Institutions of higher learning and make full use of the latest scientific knowledge and new educational technology to offer a high quality of education to meet contemporary needs.
