In case of persons accused of bailable offences, if the officer making an arrest under the two preceding sections be not empowered to admit the person arrested to bail, he shall forward him without any unnecessary delay, with a report of the circumstances in which the arrest was made, to the nearest Officer-in-charge of the police-station, whose duty is to admit such person to bail, if sufficient bail be tendered for his appearance before the Collector or Prohibition Officer, as the case may be or to the nearest Magistrate for remand to jail custody or grant of bail, as the case may be, pending investigation.
