The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1989Chapter XLI SPECIAL RULES OF EVIDENCE
Attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life and in such attempt doing Act towards the commission of the offence. According as the offence is one in respect of which the police may arrest without warrant or not. According as the offence is one in respect of which a summons or warrant shall ordinarily issue. According as offence contemplated by the offender is bailable or not. Compoundable when the offence attempted is compoundable. Imprisonment for life or imprisonment not exceeding half longest term and of description, provided for the offence, or fine, or both.
