This Act provides for the recognition and support of public libraries in Gujarat. Libraries can apply for recognition, which the Government can grant, refuse or withdraw, with a right of appeal. Recognised libraries are classified, entered in a register and become eligible for maintenance grants. The Act also recognises public library associations at taluka and other levels.
