Chapter I PRELIMINARY

Short title, extent and commencement.

1. (1) This Act may be called the Mahatma Gandhi Udyanikee Evam Vanikee Vishwavidyalaya Adhiniyam, 2019;
2. (2) It shall extend to the whole State of Chhattisgarh;
3. (3) It shall come into force from 1st April, 2020.

Definitions. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,-

1. (i) "Horticulture" means the basic and applied science of fruits, vegetables, flower, spices, medicinal and aromatic plants, mushrooms, landscaping, agroforestry and apiculture (bee keeping), production, processing and management and betterment of the rural people;
2. (ii) "College" means a college of the University under the direct control and management of the Board and the Principal Executive Officer of the University whether located at the headquaters, campuses or elsewhere;
3. (iii) "Extension" means all educational programmes undertaken for the purpose of ascertaining the problems of research in horticulture and allied sciences, disseminating the results of research to extension, personnel and farmers and providing training for the purpose of such dissemination;
4. (iv) "Hostel" means a unit of residence for students of the University provided, maintained or recognised by it;
5. (v) "Registered Graduate" means a graduate registered under the Provisons of this Act;
6. (vi) "Scheduled Castes" means the Scheduled Castes specified in relation to this State under Article 341 of the Constitution of India;
7. (vii) "Scheduled Tribes" means the Scheduled Tribes specified in relation to this State under Article 342 of the Constitution of India;
8. (viii) "statutes and Regulations", means respectively the statutes and regulations of the University for the time being;
9. (ix) "student of the University" means a person enrolled in the University for taking a course of study for a degree, diploma or other academic distinction duly instituted;
10. (x) "Teacher of the University" means a person appointed or recognised by the University for the purpose of imparting instructions and/or conducting and guiding research and/or extension programmes and includes a person who may be declared by the statues to be a teacher;
11. (xi) "University" means the Mahatma Gandhi Udyanikee Evam Vanikee Vishwavidyalaya of Chhattisgarh.
