Bare Act
The Sikkim Weight And Measures Act 1980
The Sikkim Weights and Measures Act, 1980 establishes standard legal metrology regulations across the State of Sikkim to ensure uniform measurements in trade and commerce. It applies to manufacturers, repairers, dealers, sellers, and businesses using weights or measures, while excluding inter-state trade and specific defense production. The law mandates licensing for making or repairing measuring equipment, compulsory verification and stamping by designated inspectors, and strict standards for packaged commodities. By penalizing false measurements, unauthorized equipment, and deceptive trade practices, the Act protects consumers from fraud, guarantees fair pricing based on accurate quantities, and establishes legal confidence in commercial transactions.
