The Assam Satra Preservation and Development Commission Act, 2025
The Assam Satra Preservation and Development Commission Act, 2025
The Assam Satra Preservation and Development Commission Act, 2025 creates a dedicated statutory body to protect, manage, and develop traditional Vaishnavite Satra institutions and their land property across Assam. The law applies to all areas of Assam except the autonomous regions under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. It empowers a specialized state commission headed by a retired High Court Judge to investigate land encroachments, issue binding directives to administrative officials, hear land disputes, and safeguard the cultural heritage of Satras. For the general public and local communities, this Act establishes clear procedures to protect historical temple lands from illegal occupation, ensures transparent management of spiritual heritage assets, and bars ordinary civil court litigation by centralizing land dispute resolutions under a single authority.
