The Delhi Degradable Plastic Bag (Manufacture, Sale and Usage) and Garbage (Control) Act, 2000
The Delhi Degradable Plastic Bag (Manufacture, Sale and Usage) and Garbage (Control) Act, 2000
This environmental law regulates the manufacture, sale, and use of plastic bags and waste disposal across the National Capital Territory of Delhi. It applies directly to all plastic manufacturers, sellers, residents, local business establishments, and municipal authorities. The act bans non-degradable plastic bags, prohibits using recycled plastic bags and containers for storing food, and strictly outlaws throwing garbage or religious materials into public spaces, drains, and rivers. By enforcing these rules and segregating trash, this legislation aims to prevent harmful food contamination, curb plastic pollution, protect stray animals from ingesting toxic waste, prevent heavily clogged waterways, and preserve public health.
