Bare Act
The National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University (Amendment) Act, 2021
1. Short title and commencement
- (1) This Act may be called the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University (Amendment) Act, 2021.
- (2) It shall come into force on such date as the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
2. Substitution of section 5A
In the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University Act, 1998 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), for section 5A, the following shall be substituted, namely,-
"5A. Reservation of seats for admission of the students into the courses: There shall be reservation of seats in the courses in favour of Backward Classes, Other Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Physically challenged persons, Women and Resident Students of Telangana, as may be prescribed:
Provided that twenty five percent (25%) of the sanctioned intake of courses in the University shall be reserved for the resident students of Telangana.
Explanation: For the purpose of this section, Resident Students of Telangana, means,-
For admission to 5 years B.A. L.L.B.
- (Hons) Course :-
- (i) a student who after studying in the State of Telangana for four consecutive years appears for the qualifying examination in the Telangana State; or
- (ii) a student who has in the previous seven years resided in the State of Telangana for at least a period of four years, and completed the qualifying examination i.e. 10+2 or equivalent from the educational institutions in the State of Telangana. For admission to L.L.M. Course :-
- (i) a student who after studying in the State of Telangana for four consecutive years appears for the qualifying examination in the Telangana State; or
- (ii) a student who has in the previous seven years resided in the State of Telangana for at least a period of four years, and completed the qualifying examination i.e. L.L.B. from the educational institutions in the State of Telangana.".
3. Amendment of section 7
In the principal Act, in section 7, for sub-section (1), the following shall be substituted, namely,-
"(1) The Chief Justice of the High Court for the State of Telangana shall be the Chancellor of the University and in his absence, the acting Chief Justice of the High Court for the State of Telangana shall discharge the functions of the Chancellor.".
4. Amendment of section 9
In the principal Act, in section 9, in sub-section (1),
- (i) in clause (g), for the words "Andhra Pradesh", the word "Telangana" shall be substituted;
- (ii) for clause (i), the following shall be substituted, namely,- "(i) two persons from amongst sitting or retired Judges of the High Court for the State of Telangana, nominated by the Chancellor;".
5. Amendment of section 11
In the principal Act, in section 11, in sub-section (1), in clause (c), for the words "Andhra Pradesh", the word "Telangana" shall be substituted.
6. Amendment of section 13
In the principal Act, in section 13, in sub-section (1),-
- (i) for clause (b), the following shall be substituted, namely ,- "(b) One Judge from the High Court for the State of Telangana either sitting or retired nominated by the Chancellor;";
- (ii) in clause (g), for the words "Andhra Pradesh", the word "Telangana" shall be substituted.
