The Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies (Suspension of Operation) Act, 2000

(1) This Act may be called the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies (Suspension of Operation) Act, 2000. (2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 23rd day of August 2000.

The operation of the whole of the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Act, 1998 (hereinafter referred to as the 1998 Act) and the rules made thereunder are hereby suspended.

The Acts referred to in sub-section (1) of section 200 of the 1998 Act (hereinafter referred to as the repealed Acts) and all rules, by-laws, notifications, notice, orders, directions or any other proceedings issued and schemes framed and works sanctioned by the State Government or any corporation or municipality or town panchayat, as the case may be, under the repealed Acts which were in force immediately before the 1st day of August 2000 shall, for all purposes, be deemed to have been revived on and from the 1st day of August 2000.

All acts done or proceedings taken by any officer or authority under the 1998 Act and the rules made thereunder immediately before the 23rd day of August 2000, which are not inconsistent with the relevant provisions of the repealed Acts and the rules, etc., revived by section 3, shall, for all purposes, be deemed to be and to have always been validly done or taken in accordance with the provisions of the repealed Acts and the rules, etc., revived by section 3 as if the said repealed Acts and rules, etc. had been in force at all material times, when such acts or proceedings were done or taken.

(1) Anything done or any action taken or any proceeding pending under the 1998 Act immediately before the 23rd day of August 2000, which is not consistent with the provisions of the repealed Acts and the rules, etc. (revived by section 3) shall abate. (2) No legal proceeding or remedy in respect of right, privilege, obligation or liability acquired or accrued or incurred under the 1998 Act which is not consistent with the provisions of the repealed Acts and the rules, etc. (revived by section 3) shall be instituted, continued or enforced.

(1) The Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies (Suspension of Operation) Ordinance, 2000 is hereby repealed. (2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or any action taken under the said Ordinance shall be deemed to have been done or taken under this Act.
