Delimitation of wards
The Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies (Second Amendment) Act, 2024(1) For the purpose of the election of the councillors, the commissioner of the municipality shall in consultation with the Council prepare a draft proposal for the delimitation of the wards of the municipality and publish the same in such manner as may be prescribed. (2) On such publication, any person or association of persons residing or situated within the local area of the municipality concerned may prefer his or its objections to such proposal within thirty days from the date of publication of the draft proposal. (3) On the expiry of the time limit referred to in sub-section (2), the Commissioner shall consider all the objections received, prepare a summary and place the same before the Council for consideration. (4) The Council shall within a period of thirty days from such placement consider at a meeting specially convened: the proposal along with the summary of objections and make its recommendation. (5) On the expiry of the time limit referred to in sub-section (4), the Commissioner shall forward the proposal to the Director, who shall consider the same and either confirm the proposal or where any modification is required he shall modify the proposal in accordance with the rules prescribed and direct the Commissioner for publishing the proposal as approved by him. (6) Any modification or revision to the delimitation of wards shall be made once in five years before the general election to the municipality.
