The Tamil Nadu Public Men (Criminal Misconduct) Repeal Act, 1977

(1) This Act may be called the Tamil Nadu Public Men (Criminal Misconduct) Repeal Act, 1977. (2) It shall come into force at once.

The Tamil Nadu Public Men (Criminal Misconduct) Act, 1973 (Tamil Nadu Act 2 of 1974) (hereinafter referred to as the said Act) is hereby repealed.

(1) Section 8 of the Tamil Nadu General Clauses Act, 1891 (Tamil Nadu Act I of 1891) shall not apply to the repeal of the said Act by this Act. (2) Every complaint, investigation or other proceeding made or taken under the said Act before the date of the commencement of this Act and pending on the said date before the Commissioner of Inquiries or other authority exercising powers under the said Act shall abate. (3) No legal proceeding or remedy in respect of any right, privilege, obligation or liability acquired, accrued or incurred under the said Act shall be instituted, continued or enforced under the said Act. (4) No investigation or other proceeding shall be made or taken under the said Act in respect of any criminal misconduct committed under the said Act. (5) Every appointment made by the Commissioner of Inquiries under the said Act shall cease to have effect.

In section 6 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1952 (Central Act 46 of 1952), in clause (a) of sub-section (1), the expression " or under section 15 of the Tamil Nadu Public Men (Criminal Misconduct) Act, 1973 " shall be omitted.

It is hereby declared that the repeal of the said Act by this Act shall not affect- (a) the operation of any other law for the time being in force ; or (b) any proceeding by way of investigation or otherwise which may be or might have been taken under such law against any public man as defined in the said Act.
