Transit by Railway Allowance
The Tamil Nadu Payment of Salaries Act, 1951(1) Every Member of the Legislative Assembly including any such Member who holds any of the offi ces referred to in sections 3,4, and 6 shall, for every fi nancial year, be entitled to receive in such manner and subject to such conditions, as may be prescribed, a sum of Rs. 20,000 in two equal instalments payable in the month of April and October for the purpose of travelling either singly or with his or her spouse or any other relative in one or more journeys by any class by any railway in India. Provided that transit by railway allowance under this sub-section shall not be paid to any member who is in receipt of free railway pass issued by the Central Government or by any other authority for having been a Member of Parliament. (2) Nothing in this section shall be construed as disentitling a Member of the Legislative Assembly to any travelling allowance to which he is otherwise entitled under the provisions of this Act.
