The Tamil Nadu Agricultural Lands Record of Tenancy Rights Act, 1969
The Tamil Nadu Agricultural Lands Record of Tenancy Rights Act, 1969 establishes a system for preparing, updating, and maintaining official records of agricultural tenancy rights throughout Tamil Nadu. It applies to landowners, cultivating tenants, sub-tenants, and intermediaries, while exempting land owned by government bodies. Revenue officers register details of agricultural holdings and the individuals cultivating them, aided by local advisory committees. The law grants recorded entries a presumption of correctness and provides procedures to resolve disputes and update records upon changes in tenancy. By creating an official, transparent record of tenancy rights, the law protects tenant farmers against unfair eviction and secures their land tenure.
