The Salaries and Allowances of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly (Puducherry) Act, 1964
This Act regulates the compensation, allowances, benefits, and working conditions of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Puducherry. It entitles the Speaker to the same salary, allowances, housing, vehicle facilities, and advances as a Cabinet Minister of Puducherry, while setting specific salary and allowance rates for the Deputy Speaker. Both officials and their family members receive free medical treatment equivalent to top-grade government officers. To avoid double compensation, it prohibits them from drawing regular member salaries while serving in these posts, and bars the Speaker from outside professions. This legislation ensures fair compensation and prevents conflicts of interest.
