Power of Commissioner

The Commissioner shall, for the purpose of holding any inquiry under this Chapter, have the same powers as are vested in a civil court under the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 (Central Act 5 of 1908) when trying a suit, in respect of the following matters, namely: --

1. (a) summoning and enforcing the attendance of any person and examining him on oath;
2. (b) requiring the discovery and production of documents;
3. (c) any other matter which may be prescribed. The section came into force on the 26th day of January, 1974 vide Extraordinary Gazette No. 11 dated 17th January 1974.
