Short title, extent and commencement

1. (1) This Act may be called the Maharashtra Sales Tax Act, 1979.
2. (2) It extends to the whole of the State of Maharashtra.
3. (3) This section shall come into force at once, and the remaining provisions of this Act shall come into force on such day as the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
4. (4) Any notification, order or rule, and any appointment to an office, may be made, and any certificate of Registration, Authorization, Recognition, Permit or any other certificate or document by whatever name called may be granted or issued, under this Act, at any time after the passing of this Act; but such notification, order, rule, appointment, certificate or document made, granted or issued shall not take effect till the day appointed for the remaining provisions to come into force under sub-section (3).
