Powers of the University
The Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Vedic Vishwavidyalaya Adhiniyam 1995The University shall have the following powers, namely: (1) To provide for instruction in all branches of Vedic learning and systems, including Philosophy, Agama, Tantra, History, Purana, Upaveda and Knowledge-Science, and to promote and develop the study of Sanskrit, as the University may determine from time to time, and to make provision for research and for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in these fields, and in these fields: (a) To confer degrees or other academic distinctions and to award certificates on the basis of examinations, evaluation or any other method of testing on such conditions as the University may determine, and to withdraw such degrees, certificates, etc., for sufficient and adequate reasons; (b) To organise and undertake extra-mural studies, training and extension services; (c) To confer honorary degrees or other distinctions in the manner prescribed by the Statutes; (d) To provide facilities through the distance education system; (e) To recognise an institution of higher learning for such purposes as the University may determine and to withdraw such recognition; (f) To co-operate with or collaborate or associate with any other University or authority or other institution of higher learning in such manner and for such purposes as the University may determine; (g) To institute and award fellowships, scholarships, exhibitions, medals and prizes; (h) To make provision for research and advisory services and for that purpose to enter into such arrangements with other institutions, industrial or other organisations as the University may deem necessary; (i) To organise and conduct refresher courses, orientation courses, workshops, seminars and other programmes for teachers, evaluators and other academic staff; (2) To recognise persons for the purpose of imparting instructions in a college or an institution maintained by the University; (3) To appoint persons working in any other University or organisation as teacher of the University for a specified period; (4) To create teaching, administrative, ministerial and other posts and to make appointments thereto; (5) To establish such schools of studies, special centres, specialised laboratories or other units for research and instruction as are, in the opinion of the University, necessary for the furtherance of its objects; (6) To establish and maintain colleges, institutions and halls; (7) To make such special arrangements in respect of residence, discipline and teaching of women students as the University may consider desirable; (8) To appoint on contract visiting professors, distinguished professors, consultants, scholars and such other persons who can contribute to the advancement of the objects of the University; (9) To confer autonomous status on a college, institution or department, as the case may be, in accordance with the Statutes; (10) To determine standards for admission to the University, which may include examination, evaluation or any other method of testing; (11) To provide for reservation of seats for students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes for the purposes of admission; (12) To demand and receive fees and other charges; (13) To supervise the residences of the students of the University and to make arrangements for promoting their health and general welfare; (14) To prescribe the conditions of service of all categories of staff, including the code of conduct for them; (15) To regulate and enforce discipline among students and employees and to take such other disciplinary measures in this regard as may be deemed necessary by the University; (16) To make arrangements for promoting the health and general welfare of the employees; (17) To receive benefactions, donations and gifts for the purposes of the University and to acquire, hold, manage and dispose of any property, movable or immovable, including trust and endowed property; (18) To borrow money on the security of the property of the University for the purposes of the University; (19) To do all such other acts and things as may be necessary, incidental or conducive to the attainment of all or any of the objects of the University: Provided that no course of study shall be conducted and no centre shall be established or run without the prior approval of the State Government.
